October 12, 1958 New York News Coloroto Magazine Jackie Gleason

This wonderful vintage intact newspaper magazine called the New York News Coloroto Magazine dated October 12, 1958, is rare as these thin newspaper magazines were often tossed out with the rest of the Sunday newspaper. It has 27 numbered pages + the 2 covers. It is oversized in size, measuring 13 1/4 inches by 10 3/4 inches. On the front cover of this issue is comedian Jackie Gleason who had TV series and many guest appearances on other shows along with movies to his credit. I best recall his HONEYMOONERS shows on TV. Within this magazine is a pictorial article about him which includes a write-up and both color and B&W pictures.

These fun news magazines covered such topics as pictorial and written word on social news, animal world, food, fashion, celebrity, and there's always the ads relative to the decade. Some of the articles within are (1) "The Typical American Girl" (Linda Fleischman with a pretty color photo of her. At the time she lived in Freeport, N.Y.; (2) a B&W one-page pictorial article on Ed Wynn; (3) a pictorial article "Panels on the channels" which includes pictures of Jayne Meadows, Kitty Carlisle and Bennett Cerf; (4) 2-page color pictorial article "Let's Go, Giants" with 6 pictures of the team members; and there are more good articles to bring you vintage reading pleasure

The old paper has good paper smell--unlike some vintage paper collectibles. If these are your interests, I think you will really enjoy collecting this hard-to-find magazine. CONDITION: I would say it is very good to excellent, especially considering that it is decades old. There is very little signs of aging and no writing on the pages--not even the crossword puzzle. I think you will be surprised how well this held up. It was included with many other news magazines in a binder from a museum so there are 2 small binder holes at left side of magazine but they do not take away from the articles or the pictures in any significant way.
