THE EARLY FASHIONISTAS...

SOME PEOPLE HAVE HAD A PROBLEM SUBMITTING A POST. IF YOU DO, PLEASE BE SURE TO EMAIL THE WEBSITE SO WE CAN CORRECT ANY SUCH PROBLEMS OR HELP YOU WITH THIS.

. The teenagers all over America today follow "fashionistas" on the WEB, but 1950s teenagers followed the fashion trends often set by the Regulars who danced on American Bandstand and who would definitely be considered "fashionistas" of their time. In the first pictures here, we have lovely Carole Scaldeferri who was probably the most fashion conscious of all the dancers on American Bandstand. Next to her picture is a similar dress from a late 1950s Lana Lobell catalog. Below we have Regulars Pat Molittieri and Arlene Sullivan in their pert shirtwaist dresses, a.k.a. skirtdresses side by side with some shirtwaist dresses from a vintage "Seventeen Magazine."

...and more examples of the full dresses are shown here modeled by Pat Molittieri and Carole Scaldeferr:

Stay tuned to this fashion blog topic as I will be bringing some more fashion comparisons featuring other Bandstand Regulars such as Rosalie Beltrante, Justine Carrelli, Frani Giordano and more who sent us out to stores or ordering through catalogs to try to get the same or similar items.

Hi Marsha, This is so new to me and I am having fun this Sunday. . .loving all the new things you have done. . . I have to say you were the First Big AB Website, where the regulars can meet and share the memories! Thanks for the memories. . . you're the Best! Love, Carole
I still remember Pat Molittieri winning the Jukebox in the dance contest. Can't remember who the male winner was. Just too long ago! She was absolutely in tears, but we all knew she would win. It was no surprise!
What classiness back in the days...I had a dress of this style; like the one Arlene is wearing on the cover of 'Teen' that I would wear once every week!
Hi Nina...Yes, there was a classiness about the way the teens dressed in the 50s/60s. Not only was it a classy look but also a more modest look and very feminine. The girls were sure to get very approving looks from the guys.
