BABY, IT'S COLD OUTSIDE...

Going back to winters in Philadelphia ~ Early American Bandstand style, I thought I would just put up some pictures of the Regulars and also one of Pop Singer & his wife dressed up for the winter weather. Some of us viewers of the show remember the day when there were few in attendance at the studio due to the severe snow storm and Dick Clark opened up the back door and they went outside. I don't remember a lot about that show but I sure remember the cold that almost swept out from the TV screen when that door was opened. It was really neat. I bet some of the Regulars and others who went to the show can remember days when the weather made it almost impossible to get there. Still, the show must go on and the studio always seemed filled to us who were watching. I have never been to Philadelphia, but growing up with the Regulars on TV, I feel like I have been there. It got pretty cold up in the Northwest where I sat in front of our old B&W TV set--but I know it never got as cold as the Eastern winters. So, a belated thank you to all you kids (now boomers) who trudged through snow to get to the studio on a winter's day to dance for all of us.

When the weather was that bad Dick had an "ace up his sleeve". He could always rely on a local celebrity from South Philadelphia to subsitute for his regulary scheduled out of town guest. Bobby Rydell, Fabian, Al Martino, Frankie Avalon, Chubby Checker, Charlie Gracie, DeeDee Sharp, The Orlons, James Darren, Little Peggy March, Danny & Jrs, Lee Andrews & The Hearts, etc. Dick practically launched all of their careers through their exposure on Bandstand. Great site you have here Marsha!
Thank you, Bennie, for your nice comment. It is always great to see new posters at the blog. I plan to add some newly received pictures in the next few days. It's always fun to do that--to continue the memories of such a great show.
